Why design a Web Site
dedicated to the family name SNITCH. Well, researching my family history
came about a few years ago after both my sisters died and I realised that I
never knew any of my grandparents. My father and mother were dead and I
never had anyone to discuss or tell me about my family and it's origins, as I
can't remember it being a subject that ever cropped up in conversation with my
family when they were alive. Most of my uncles and aunts emigrated to
Australia with my grandparents, therefore, I decided that I needed to know about
my history. My only living close family member was my brother and he
helped me with some of my family details. I found it a fascinating
subject when I started to research the history of my family name, spending many
hours in the Records Offices, working my way through parish records, the
reference libraries as well as searching on the internet. It really
brought things home to me when I started to relate the generations with details
like, Arthur Snitch emigrated to the USA in 1871, this was when the wagon trains
were still forging west opening up new lands, and he was only 10 years younger
than my grandfather, or the fact that Butch Cassidy & the Sundance kid, the
2 notorious outlaws died in about 1937 after my father was
born. Another being Chief Sitting Bull, the famous Indian
Chief who defeated Colonel Custer at the battle of Little Bighorn (1874) only
died in 1890 again that was after my grandfather was born. Details like
that really make you realise how far we have come in such a short time maybe
just a generation or two.
I would like to thank the
members of the Snitch families from around the world who have helped to
contribute to the results of what hopefully you will all think of as your own
family history web site as it's your history as well as mine.
If you have any interesting
facts, details or pictures that you may wish to see displayed on the site,
please let me have them and I will try and add them to the site, space
permitting.
So now you all know how this
site came about and I hope you all enjoy navigating your way through it.
